CityLit Festival a success

April 24, 2008 - When you have an 80-degree day in the middle of April, you never know how many people will be interested about going to the library. Amazingly enough though, I went through 50 books in less than four hours at the fifth-annual Baltimore CityLit Festival on April 26 at the Enoch Pratt Library.

Sean's warmup monsterTrue, it is easier to get rid of books when you are giving them away. Besides the books, graphic designer Sean O'Connor (see self-portrait to the right) was giving away cool sketches and website stickers. We figured that since the library was providing a place for the CityLit Project to host the event, and CityLit wasn't charging the vendors, why should we charge for our stuff?

We met a lot of cool people at the event. Brad Grochowski is the founder and president of AuthorsBookshop.com, an Amazon-type site dedicated to giving authors a decent margin on sales. For those of you unfamiliar with how authors get paid by Amazon, they basically do not, unless they sell a billion books ... which, of course, Amazon keeps a bunch of that money.

I'll have to come back and update with the other people we met because I don't have their names and/or websites in front of me. All in all, the CtyLit Project seemed pretty successful, and surely by next year I'll have my new book to present as well.
