If you think about it, you come into contact with new people every day. So why do people act differently if you meet someone online versus in person?
It is easier to hide behind profiles on personals and message board sites, but people do that in person as well. Still, it is debatable whether or not you should actually meet someone who is not able to produce a picture beforehand.
