Unbeknownst to me, robots are starting to pop up all over the place. Not that I am the head robot counter or anything, but I thought I would have a better handle on what is being built. Apparently, though, EVERYTHING is currently in the process of being built.
First, there's a guy in Alaska building a robot exoskeleton in his backyard. According to the plan, if a person wears the suit, which was built by Carlos Owens, that person would inherit robotic capabilities and stand roughly 18 feet tall. Let's hope he keeps the robot away from low clearance overpasses.
Then we have Hans Moravec, originally from Austria, who has started a company devoted to building robots. According to the Scientific American article, Moravec predicts that by 2040, robots will be self-aware and be able to experience emotions. I thought there was no crying in robotics, but I guess I'm wrong there.
And of course, we have Will Smith in the film "I, Robot." Was the movie any good? I'm still trying to count all the robots I missed.
