I'm running out of ideas for different welcome columns. It seems as if I write more welcome columns than actual columns about computers or humor or computer humor or large chameleons.
Of course, this is a little different than most welcome columns because I really never completely left. I'm still in Owensboro, although instead of working at the Messenger-Inquirer, I'm working as a Web developer for Red Pixel Studios. No we haven't been around for generations and generations, although the word "red" is pretty old. I've been around only for two weeks, and we seem to be growing about as fast as my waistline grew in seventh grade (someday, when I know you a little better, I'll show you pictures).
According to this Web site, "Red Pixel Studios specializes in the creation of effective multimedia design solutions for business. Our services include Web site development, presentation creation and print media production." This isn't an ad for our company, although if it were, this would be sponsored by McDonald's (Food, Folks, Fun and Firewire). I just figured you needed a little background before I tell you I'm actually traveling from state to state with a band of gypsies selling outdated coupon books.
Anyway, this column will take on many facets over the next few centuries, er, however long I write it. First and foremost, I will continue to write about emerging technologies dealing with computers, the Internet, etc. I try to keep up with this stuff because if I don't, I'll be out a job. Even though my life (and the other 45 gypsies in my nomadic group) depends on getting the news first, it's hard to keep track of everything. So when I don't know something, which happens fairly frequently, I'll point you to a good URL.
I also like to pass along tips and tricks that may come in handy when using your favorite programs. It's pretty cool how much more efficient your computer can be as long as you know how to push the right buttons. One time I held the "5" key down so long that the phone rang. Maybe it was purely a coincidence, but I believe.
Lastly, I want to make this fun and not like you are having to read old accountants' reference books, although some of those can be fascinating. I've been writing this column now for about a year and a half, so I do have some decent ones. You can check out some of my older columns at
A big portion of my columns, though, is receiving feedback from my readers. I LOVE to have surveys and report the results. If you haven't yet, you still have time to check out the Crazy Survey. Don't forget to check out the preliminary resultsas well. Also, if you have suggestions for a column, whether it be crazy or not,
I hope you'll come back and read this, I will be publishing every other week for now, and if people continue to read, maybe I can write even more often. Well I need to fix my scarf, necklaces and crystal ball, so I'll talk to you next time.
