It's not Hulk Hogan and Randy "Macho Man" Savage, but Microsoft and Amazon, two world Internet corporation leaders, have filed a dual lawsuit against a Canadian company to again try to halt spam.
According to the press release, the company sent millions of deceptive emails, appearing as if they were coming from Hotmail.com or Amazon.com. This practice, called spoofing, isn't too apparent to an average user but can be discovered by examining additional email headers and server behavior. Not only that, but the two corporations are trying to put an end to phishing, which is the practice of creating fake website or emails to persuade users to give away confidential information.
I wish there was a simple way to explain to average users how to be careful when online, not open crazy emails and use junk mail filters. There would still be people trying to create a ruckus, but if they kept being unsuccessful, they would probably stop. We have occasional attempts at people trying to access our servers, but let's face it, we don't really have anything of value on there. Unless the hackers were after ... the frequently asked questions of local businesses! With information like that, they might be able to finally uncover the mysteries of centrifugal motion.
Or maybe they'll just leave that up to professional wrestlers, who seem to have a knack for spinning others around.
