I'm a big fan of frogs, and the reason is somewhat strange. I used to work at an amusement park, and I always seemed to be working at the game where you hit the rubber frog into a lily pad. The word got out that I actually lived in the pond, but that wasn't completely accurate; I just took a bath in it every once in awhile.
Of course, that has nothing to do with the actual news, which shows that amphibians worldwide are in decline. Scientists estimate that the extinction rate has been so rapid in the last century that they are equating it to approximately tens of thousands of years.
Maybe you're not a big salamander fan, but that's beside the point. Different creatures have come and gone for many years, but when one species is disrupted more than another, there's likely an environmental reason for it. Factors include deforestation, water pollution and wetlands destruction.
Visit AmphibiaWeb for more information. Unfortunately, I don't have enough room at my place to raise frogs at the moment.
