Amazingly enough, there are a handful of people out there who still have not purchased an iPod yet. It's too bad, really, because studies have shown that people who have iPods experience less back pain later in life, most likely because they aren't carrying around boom boxes on their shoulders during the formidable years of their lives. Haven't you wonder why chiropractors have yet to endorse the handheld music device?
OK, maybe that's not entirely true, but there's a new reason now to pick up an iPod. Nike and Apple Computer recently announced they are jointly developing a wireless system for runners to keep track of their performance, while also aiding in song play during the workout.
The starting price for the Nike+iPod Sport Kit will be $29, which obviously doesn't include the shoes that contain an embedded sensor to send data to the iPod. When the runner uses the device, the information contained after a day's workout can then be logged to Nike's website.
For people who stay on top of their workout regiment, this is a great idea. Even without seeing the device in use, it would be easy to imagine how simplistic and efficient something like this could be. But if you're a casual, or even intermediate, runner, this device would probably be overkill for you. For a little extra exercise, just carry your boom box for a mile or two.
