Book review: "Subway" by Horace Mungin

November 16, 2008

Before moving to Baltimore, I had had little experience riding most types of mass transportation. Back at home in Louisville, I occasionally took the bus places, but most of my other experiences were infrequent. I can count on one hand the number of cities (Chicago, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco) where I had ridden some form of public transit.

Fun times at the Baltimore Writers' Conference

November 10, 2008

During the weekend, I had a chance to finally attend the Baltimore Writers' Conference. There had been times in the past when I was thinking about going to one, but I could never fit it into my schedule. Luckily, I think I picked a pretty decent one to attend. First, it happened to be at Towson University, where I attend grad school. Second, there was a pretty good crowd of people there, all of whom seemed like qualified members of the writing profession.

Obama wallpaper

November 8, 2008

The day after the election, I had a chance to check out all of the front pages from around the world. It was remarkable how many international newspapers had Obama as the top story, and as expected, a number of U.S. papers devoted their entire front pages to election coverage. I created an Obama collage of the papers as a tribute to our next president. Feel free to use as a screensaver or desktop image!

Why the book name change?

October 26, 2008

You may have noticed that I recently changed the name of my new book to "Corporate Ties." I haven't had a chance to change all of my marketing material yet because, well, there's only so much time in the day, right? After thinking about it and discussing with others, "Polos to Ties" worked great for the local audience, but from a book sales standpoint, a random person might not notice the fashion connection.

Sunflowers up close and personal

October 23, 2008

According to the Detroit Free Press, there are giant sunflowers scattered all over the Ford Motor Company grounds. A panoramic view of the sunflowers is available on the Free Press website. This is the coolest thing I've seen in awhile!

Book review: "30 Careers Before 30" by Daniel Lakstins

January 17, 2009

While I do not consider myself an expert in many things, one thing I feel a bit knowledgeable about is the genre of business-related books. I haven't read all 540,495,317 books in this field, nor do I plan to do so, because most are written by authors who think that because a company made billions of dollars by having its employees wear Hawaiian shirts on Fridays, the CEO of said company is a genius.

Don't be a Dum-Dum: Finance online

June 11, 2001

Paying bills and banking online has become the chic thing to do recently, due to the vast amount of information on the Internet and the ease of accessibility.

I'm at my best when I'm in sync with what's random

July 16, 2001

Like most people (I hope), I spend a lot of time thinking. My best thinking moments by far are when I'm in the shower in the morning, just after a nap and anytime I'm at Wal-Mart.

Score by having abundant hoops info

March 15, 2003

Surely you haven't been left out of the loop of this year's March Madness. By the time you are reading this, you have probably filled out 50 brackets for various pools, trying to determine if one of your combinations will win that free umbrella your employer is supplying. Another important thing to figure out is if IUPUI is an actual team or if it is just made up of players from both Indiana and Purdue.

Unlimited email storage space with Yahoo

March 28, 2007

If you use Yahoo email and you are one of those people who save every email, it looks like you won't need to empty the trash anytime soon.

Yahoo announced that in May, the company will over unlimited storage capacity.
